Is an Aaron Rodgers trade good for everybody?

The talented QB had signed a 4-year $134 million contract extension with the franchise. But the final year was renegotiated by Rodgers to be a void year in 2023. The organization to field an able team around him deferred his player payments later on to clear cap space. Rodgers, during his final two years, would reportedly be earning almost $50 million.

But it also means that the Packers can franchise tag Rodgers and might end up letting him walk away as a free agent when he turns 40.

So the need to trade Rodgers becomes a viable and attractive option for the franchise. Apart from losing their star QB for free, they will be suffering a considerable cap hit while stunting Love’s potential growth till the time Rodgers plays in Wisconsin. Rodgers and his payments would lead to nearly 20 percent of the team’s salary cap space being sabotaged. Trading Rodgers away will result in a dead cap hit of $26.8 million and free up $19.9 million.

A trade to offload their QB makes a lot of sense for the Packers, that will help in making cap space. It will retain its chances of remaining competitive by restructuring other player deals. The long wait for another Super Bowl title continues for the 4-time league MVP, who last won it in 2011. Rodgers seems to be looking for while demanding a complete focus at helping the team win with him. But it will be at the cost of the future of the Packers organization.
