For fans, it may seem like the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets are playing a game of to-and-fro for the trade of veteran QB Aaron Rodgers. The 4X NFL MVP QB recently made his decision clear on being with the New York Jets after his four days of darkness retreat in Oregon. In his retreat, A-Rod went into the introspection of various aspects of his life, including his career as well as his relationship with family and friends.
The Packers legend opened up about the brutal search for meaning and truth during his days of darkness, as he worked around the structures of family, friendship, and love in his life.

During an interview with Aubrey Marcus on his YouTube channel, Aaron Rodgers opened up about how he spent his darkness retreat contemplating decisions surrounding his career in the NFL as well as his own personal life. He talked about questioning his own relevance in other people’s life if he is not an NFL player.

A-Rod said, “The other stuff that came up was the insecurity of, okay what am I, if not playing? Who am I to people and not the media? Like not like you know, anybody gonna give a sh*t what I’m doing anymore. Like I said about that. But about like who am I to people? To my people, you know. If I’m not providing a game to come to and an experience to have. How do they look at me now? Am I still lovable? Am I still interesting, am I still worthy to be included in community and included in activities.”

While football is his priority in life, A-Rod has not been able to keep a healthy balance between work and maintaining personal relationships. This led to him being lonely and severing ties with his family because of his strained relationship with his brother. Apart from this, Rodgers has also not been reported to be in a long-term relationship since his engagement with ex-fiance Shailene Woodley was called off. It’s been a while since his darkness retreat, and now A-Rod has made his intentions clear for his future in the NFL. But is the newfound light working in his favor?

Will the newfound light of A-Rod shine brightly?
After the retreat, Rodgers revealed his intentions for his future in the league. But there is still a standoff going on between the Packers and the Jets regarding his move to New York. Reports suggest that the Packers are now looking for a second-round pick in 2023 and a guaranteed 2024 first-round pick. Furthermore, they are willing to give the Jets some draft compensation in 2025 if A-Rod retires after 2023. But the Jets are not really to give up their first-round 2024 pick.
