The offseason has been quite eventful thus far. NFL fans have witnessed some anticipated trades and shocking exits. Now, the New York Jets are seemingly diving head-first into setting up a strong offensive lineup in anticipation of Aaron Rodgers’ potential move. Adding a big name to their roster, the franchise acquired a former Chiefs wideout.
Twenty-five-year-old Mecole Hardman is headed to New York. However, he’s left a rather perplexing state of affairs behind him. In the wake of his exit, the WR took to Twitter and engaged with fans over a statement he made. Mentioning some of the biggest names in the league, Hardman painted himself as the underdog. However, his statements were not very well-received by fans.

Last year Hardman played in only eight games during the regular season. Although he returned for the Chiefs’ AFC championship showdown, the aggravation of his injury caused him to leave the game. While the wideout didn’t have much of an impact on the Chiefs’ season, he’ll hope to change that with this move to the Jets.

Lol I came into the league behind Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce and Sammy Watkins and people thought I supposed to become a #1 WR 😂
— Mecole Hardman Jr. (@MecoleHardman4) March 27, 2023
His words are quite puzzling. Is the WR undermining his talent? Or, is he expressing his admiration for other big names who played, (and are currently playing) for the Chiefs in comparison to himself? Regardless, Hardman got some validation from one of the names he mentioned. Dolphins’ WR Tyreek Hill reached out to Hardman and said, “You number 1 bro you special.” However, Chiefs Nation did not share Hill’s warmth. Here’s what they had to say concerning Hardman’s tweet.
Fans unimpressed with Hardman’s take
Chiefs Nation did not know what to make of Mecole Hardman’s tweet. One fan retorted
You could’ve proved you were a #2 and you didn’t even do that. Bye.
— 🦬🚂🐊 (@TernupUF) March 27, 2023
Another fan ranted
You had four years to learn from them & push yourself. That’s a hell of an advantage many WRs don’t get. Last year, it was just Travis & you left. It doesn’t matter who is “ahead” of you or what role you’re given. One should better himself & force his way into the role he wants.

This user did not hold back from saying
You had your chance to prove you were a #1 WR with the Chiefs this year.. and look what happened.

One fan stated
News flash you won’t be a number one for the jets either… good luck tho 👍🏾
— Quin Wittenauer (@QuinWittenauer) March 27, 2023
However, some fans shared words of encouragement
Best of luck Mecole! Don't let the haters get to you , chiefs kingdom appreciates your contributions to winning two Super Bowls!
