Under the tutelage of Jon Gruden, AFC West franchise Las Vegas Raiders have been tipped to make the playoffs sooner rather than later. However, they’ve failed to do so in recent seasons. They finished second in their division last year with an 8-8 record and narrowly missed out on the playoffs.

But the Las Vegas-based franchise has made a strong start to their 2021 NFL campaign. With Derek Carr as their starting quarterback, the Raiders pulled off a sensational 27-33 OT win over the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night.

Playing in front of a packed Allegiant Stadium, coach Gruden’s boys came from behind to register a morale-boosting win over Lamar Jackson and Co. in their opening Week 1 fixture.

Raiders coach Jon Gruden ecstatic after opening week win over Ravens

After a brilliant 4th quarter, coach Jon Gruden’s Las Vegas Raiders took the game to overtime. QB Derek Carr connected with a wide open Zay Jones to hand the home team a stunning win. Here’s what the boss had to say following Monday night’s thriller.

“I felt like I died and woke up. And died again. And I was like a cat — I had multiple lives tonight. I don’t like playing like that. It was tough, but again, we did a lot of really good things to win that football game tonight,” Raiders coach Jon Gruden said following his team’s epic OT win.

Coach Gruden also heaped praise on TE Darren Waller who was monumental during Monday night’s win over the Ravens.

Apart from Carr and Waller, credit must also be given to the Raiders defense. They were crucial in OT against the Ravens and kept the Raiders in the hunt for a win right till the very end.

“I’m like, not like this. You know what I mean? I can’t lose like this. We did too many good things to get us in that position to win it. But the thing that I love the most, everyone that talked crap about our defense for 12 months, they stepped up when we needed it the most and got us the ball back so we could win it again,” Carr said during the ESPN broadcast.
