Gisele Bündchen is a household name in the fashion world. ‘The Body’ has walked over 600 runway shows. The 42-year-old supermodel, who earned the most among many other models for fifteen years, holds a long-standing legacy. But before rising to the top in the runway scene, Bündchen faced several rejections from modeling agencies. Although her big break happened at the 1998 Alexander McQueen show, proved as a jumping point for her career, it came with its anxiety as well.

The former Victori’s Secret model was only a teenage girl when an Elite Modeling agent, discovered her at a shopping mall in 1994. Bündchen was just 14 back then with full of ambitions. She got second place in the Look of the Year modeling contest in 1995. To become more successful, she moved to New York City, the boiling point of everything fast and fashionable.

There, she toiled to find modeling gigs for three years. However, all she faced was rejection from 40 agencies because of her long nose. Surely, those modeling industries are sad, as she’s one of the most iconic supermodels in the world now. Gisele said, “They just opened the first picture, and I was not what they were looking for.”

Amid the disheartening rejection, she found light in the form of the Alexander McQueen Spring 1998 Ready-to-Wear collection. McQueen, the founder of the British designer brand, asked her to show her walk. He gave his signature, “Impossible skirt and his very tight skirt.” He booked the young 17-year-old, Gisele, for the show.

But at the show, Gisele Bündchen, explained, “And basically I’m wearing nothing you know, I’m wearing a skirt. And the other outfit is like something… I’m basically naked, right? And I’m just like, oh my god, I started crying and I can’t really speak English, you know, as good as to like really explain what was happening.
