It is safe to say that since the game between the Saints and the Bucs ended, some fans might have screamed into their pillows or at least let out a sad tear. After all, the mistake that the Saints running back, Mark Ingram II, made in the fourth quarter was irreversible. It could have saved the game. Later, the 32-year-old took to Twitter to apologize for his mistake.

The New Orleans Saints faced a brutal sequence in the last quarter of their Monday Night Football matchup. The tiny (not really) mistake may cost them the entire season.

New Orleans possessed the ball with a 16-3 lead well into the fourth quarter. No.14, Andy Dalton, threw a pass to the veteran running back, Ingram. The no.22 re-entered the game after he suffered an injury before the game.

The Heisman Trophy winner was hobbling, but he ran out of bounds one yard short of the first-down line. However, there was ample space for him to stretch for an extra yard.

Mark Ingram II took accountability

Even though there were more than five minutes on the clock, the Alabama product still ran out of bounds. Then the Saints ran another play to pick up the first down and switched to a passing play.

The clock was stopped when the pass was incomplete. Thus, instead of scoring, they decided to punt from their own 44-yard line.

Ingram tweeted after the game and apologized for the missed opportunity. If Ingram had not stepped out of the bounds, or if the losing team had called a run play on third or fourth down, the Saints would have won the game and had moved to 5-8.

It was a hard-earned win because the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did not move the ball in any drive except for the final two. They kicked a field goal in their opening drive but didn’t score in any of the other eight. But Brady’s touchdown saved the game.
