After Ben Roethlisberger left the Steelers locker room, there had been a lot of discussions about his replacement. Finally, Mitch Trubisky was nominated as Big Ben’s successor. However, it seems the Steelers fans disliked this transition. They started booing at the quarterback in their Week 2 game, which caught the attention of Roethlisberger, who later came forward to express his displeasure.

Long-time backup Mason Rudolph, Mitch Trubisky, and the Rookie Kenny Pickett were the options available for coach Mike Tomlin to announce as the successor of Big Ben’s legacy.
To serve this purpose, preseason happened to be the platform for the management to make their pick, and Trubisky along with Mason Rudolph remained equally competent, toe-to-toe. But finally, Trubisky got his chance to start games, which went pretty well in Week 1. They defeated the Joe Burrow-led Bengals with a narrow margin of 23-20, but all those efforts were for nothing in Week 2.

This Sunday, the Steelers lowered their guards and had to taste defeat at the hands of the Patriots. 17-14 was the score by the end of the final whistle. Despite playing in the home stadium, Trubisky became a victim of angry fans booing at the Offensive unit in the third quarter of the game.
While everyone thought it was pointed at the entire offense, it turns out that Trubisky was under the radar. Fans repeatedly kept chanting Kenny Pickett’s name, which didn’t go well with the former QB.

Ben Roethlisberger spoke about this matter in his podcast and viewed that the attitude of the fans was just unbelievable. “I just don’t think it’s fair,” Roethlisberger said of the situation in his podcast.
“I wouldn’t blame Mitch for the performance (on Sunday). Did he miss a couple of throws? Yes, every quarterback does. I just saw Aaron Rodgers miss a throw and he’s one of the greatest to ever play. It’s going to happen sometimes.” He added.

Ben Roethlisberger admits the team needs more explosive gameplay
In the first two games, the Steelers have only managed two touchdowns. Just like passing the ball, quarterbacks need to rush and risk plays. That makes it a true Offensive squad rather than playing safe and waiting for a miracle to happen.

“I just kept sitting there like, come on, you’ve got to back a defense up,” Roethlisberger said. “You’ve got to at least threaten them every once in a while. … And there are some explosive players on that team, on our offense,” he added.

While Big Ben was unimpressed by the gameplay, coach Tomlin vowed to remain patient and watch the upcoming games. The Cleveland Browns are next on the line for the Steelers. It will be interesting to see how many victories Trubisky brings home in the coming weeks.
