NFC North franchise, Detroit Lions, concluded their 2020 campaign on a disappointing note. They finished at the bottom of their division for the third consecutive season with a 5-11 record. Following their Thanksgiving Day loss to the Houston Texans, head coach Matt Patricia and GM Bob Quinn were fired and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell took over as interim head coach to see out the season.
Patricia finished his tenure in Detroit with a record of 13–29–1. In the offseason, the Lions brought in former NFL man Dan Campbell to take over as head coach. Campbell, who featured for the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints during his playing days, made his way up the coaching ladder while learning Miami Dolphins and the Saints.

The Detroit Lions announced earlier this week that 17-year old veteran Don Muhlbach will be leaving the organization as part of Campbell’s overhaul. What made it worse is that they decided to do so on the day of the player’s 40th birthday.

Coach Campbell did not shy away from any questions related to Muhlbach at a recent press meet.
“No doubt. There’s no way to sugarcoat that. I’m an a–hole. So that’s about the best way to put it, and I hate it. There was no way around it, really. Yeah, you can say there is, but ultimately that falls on me. It’s my fault. Don’s a helluva dude. It sucks, but it is what it is,” Campbell said earlier this week.

Muhlbach, alumni of Texas A&M, joined the Lions in 2004. He featured in every Detroit game since 2005 outside of a single game in 2009 due to a concussion. He was the first Lions snapper to be voted to the Pro Bowl. Muhlbach ends his career in Michigan with the second-most appearances in Lions franchise history, behind former teammate Jason Hanson.
