“I’m Not Going To Sit Here”: Baker Mayfield Seeks Quick Redemption As Panthers Meet Cleveland Browns in Week 1

It is a fresh start for quarterback Baker Mayfield with the Carolina Panthers, and it seems to have started with revenge on his mind. The former Cleveland Browns QB seems to be itching to don the Panthers jersey from Week 1 and play against his former franchise. The No.1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Browns was a hit and a miss but will be looking to hit the ground running next season.
Recently, Mayfield got a chance to share his feeling in his very first interview about the Week 1 meeting with the Browns.

While talking with Darin Gantt of Panthers.com, he states, “I’m not going to sit here and be a robot and tell you that’s not one I’ve marked on the calendar already. One, that’s not who I am. To me, it’s about winning games. Whoever we have marked on the schedule, I’m going to try to win.”

Despite the media outlets trying to make the upcoming clash part of Mayfield’s redemption tour, the new Panthers QB is focused on only finding success. While he admits his history with the Browns organization, Mayfield is determined to create momentum for his team and himself. The Panthers organization will be counting on Mayfield’s abilities for their ambitions next season.
Can Baker Mayfield turn it around in 2022 with the Carolina Panthers?
Last season was a nightmare for Mayfield, with poor performances and injuries hampering his chances in Cleveland. He made 14 appearances in 2021 while recording 3,010 passing yards, 17 TD passes, and 13 INTs. His time with the Browns franchise was a frustrating tenure. The inconsistent performances and frustration was a deal-breaker for the Cleveland fans.

Following his transfer from Texas Tech to Oklahoma, Mayfield was able to put the past behind him and work toward the future.
As another NFL season approaches, the feeling of Déjà vu will be synonymous for Mayfield. A franchise looking for changes and some stardust next season sets the stage for their new acquisition. Mayfield will be looking to take over Carolina in 2022.
