The Vikings had a great 2022 season kick-starting their campaign in style. However, a painful wild card loss against the New York Giants made all the difference. Four days later, the management fired defensive coordinator Ed Donatell from his position and started hunting for a new prospect to fill the position. Interestingly, the former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores is viewed as the perfect candidate to replace Donatell.

The year 2022 has been a roller coaster ride for Flores, in his coaching career. After getting kicked out of Miami, he landed a new gig in Pittsburgh. He decorated the role of a senior defensive assistant. Now even before completing his first season with the franchise, the veteran is gaining interest from the Vikings. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport provided the latest update in this regard.

“The #Vikings have requested permission to speak with #Steelers senior defensive assistant and LBs coach Brian Flores for their newly vacant DC job, a source said. Coach Kevin O’Connell and Flores overlapped in New England for a year,” Rapoport tweeted on Saturday morning.

The 41-year-old coach boasts immense experience in the NFL arena, and bringing him into the locker room will benefit the Vikings to a much larger extent.

Flores spent a significant amount of time in New England learning the art under Bill Belichick at the helm. He worked with the current Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell who happened to render his services with the Patriots. Hence the move is quite significant in all aspects.

Moreover, building a team under the leadership of Flores will generate great results because O’Connell and the veteran coach worked closely back in the day. After parting ways with the Patriots, Flores spent three years with the Dolphins before packing his bags to Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, Donatell’s exit came as a surprise for the Steelers fans, although the season has been a terrible campaign in all aspects.

“It was an honor to represent the franchise and lead this group of men”: Coach Brian Flores Releases Statement Following Dolphins Firing

“I want to thank Ed for his commitment to the Vikings this past season, for the positive impact he had on our players and coaches, and for his role in helping me as a first-year head coach lay this foundation. We all wish Ed and his wife, Shari, only the best in the future,” O’Connell said in the statement, per NFL.com.

Fans react to the possibility of Brian Flores making his way to Minnesota

It is going to be a steal for the Vikings fan base if the Steelers management grants them permission. Anyways few of the fans were thrilled to welcome the decision.
