Indianapolis Colts suffered an unfortunate defeat to Baltimore Ravens in the last fixture of week five. Colts’ kicker, Rodrigo Blankenship, sent his first field goal between the sticks, but fumbled the next three attempts. Two out of those three attempts could’ve sealed the game for the Colts, but Blankenship now blames an unforeseen hip injury for his poor performance.

Many fans claim injuries are nothing but a mere excuse to mask poor performances. Whether it’s from the best in the game or the mediocre crowd as well. However, performing at the highest level, that being the NFL demands 100% fitness. Every player, whether wide receiver, linebacker or quarterback, plays like it’s the last game of their career.

But life is different for place kickers, especially since their principal goal is to punt the ball between the sticks. However, Indianapolis Colts’ kicker, Rodrigo Blankenship, has conjured up quite the stir. He claims a hip injury led to his poor performance, but the Colts haven’t placed him on the injury reserve list yet.

During the game against the Ravens, Rodrigo warmed up on the sidelines, but it wasn’t him who strode onto the field to take the first kick. Last week’s Player of the Week, Rigoberto Sanchez stepped up, only to send the ball flying out of bounds. Rodrigo took the next kick and set it between the uprights, but his performance only fell from that point.

Fans on Twitter have demanded more details from the MRI scan, which would prove his injury. While Colts have remained silent, Rodrigo himself posted a cryptic post on Instagram with the caption, “Calibrating.” Is this a sign of things to come for the Colts, or will they rise from the ashes once again.

Indianapolis Colts signed veteran kicker Mike Badgley to their practice squad after Rodrigo Blankenship’s injury news broke out. Nicknamed the ‘Money Badger’, he is a former Los Angeles Chargers and Tennessee Titans player. The Titans waived him off on 13th September, and within a month he’s seemingly found a new team.

This is good news for Colts fans, knowing the field goal responsibility is in safe hands. Mike has scored 52 out of 66 field goal attempts and a staggering 83 conversions out of 88 points after touchdown chances.
