Coach K has recently announced his retirement after almost half a decade as a basketball coach in NCAA. Although it is very unlikely that he would pull a Tom Brady, the 75-year-old Mike Krzyzewski looks back in awe and recalls his glorious legacy of five championships and numerous other accolades. However, he still believes Bill Belichick to be his inspiration.

The 69-year-old New England Patriots head coach has been the most successful head coach in NFL history and Coach K lauds him for it. Krzyzewski looks up to Belichick for conquering the arena of professional football which is according to him very different from the collegiate standard.

Coach K is all praises for Bill Belichick

“I can’t get into his head,” Mike Krzyzewski said. “But watching him, it’s incredibly interesting. When somebody says, ‘You’ve been doing this the same way—it’s the same job,’ no, it’s not the same job. I’m adapting; it’s exciting.”

“Like, I’m 75. That happened with USA Basketball later in my life, and I wanted to use what I learned,” he continued. “That’s what I see in Bill from afar. I really admire him and like him. Because really it’s not about him, it’s about them [the players]. There’s nobody who’s built a better culture in pro sports than him.”

Coach K further mentioned how pro football is more business-oriented than collegiate leagues and there can be a lot of selfishness. However, Belichick has created a culture that is worthy of appreciation. His culture is now being recognized as the “Patriot Way” and his winning mindset has taken over the franchise.

Mike Krzyzewski retires with the most wins in NCAA basketball history

It is the humbleness of Coach K that makes him say so since he himself remains the most winningest coach in NCAA basketball history with a record number of 1202 wins. Belichick and Coach K remain the conquerors of their own arenas however, the GOATs have nothing but respect for each other.
