The Los Angeles Chargers have been dealt a heavy blow even before the 2020 NFL season kicked off. Roderic Teamer, who plays Safety for the Chargers, was issued a four-match ban for violating the NFL’s policy regarding substance abuse.

Roderic will miss out on the opening four games of the 2020 season. Teamer will not be on the roster for games against Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, Carolina Panthers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

NFL hands four-match ban to Chargers safety Roderic Teamer

As per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the 23-year old will be suspended without pay for the first four games. The substance of abuse in question has not been revealed by league officials as of yet.

Teamer was drafted by the Chargers in 2019. He had a decent rookie year in the NFL last season. He started six games for the Chargers and made seven appearances overall. Teamer was forced into the starting line-up after injuries to Derwin James and Adrian Phillips.

Roderic’s ban will come as a definite setback to the Chargers. The opening four games of the season are crucial for the team’s overall performance in the league.

Roderic Teamer had a productive season with the Chargers last time out in the league. The Tulane-college graduate ended his rookie year with a total of 40 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and one sack. He also registered two pass breakups and the first interception of his NFL career.

Heading into the 2020 season, Roderic was tipped to push for a starting backup safety spot behind James. The rookie Alohi Gilman will now be the backup safety on the Chargers roster, at least for the first four games of the season.

It’s going to be hard for Teamer to work his way back into the team setup after this setback.
