Recently, former NFL scout Bucky Brooks spoke about Drew Brees and his controversial comments. Sometime ago, the latter declared that he would “never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America.“ However, since then, he doubled down and apologized for his comments.

Of course, there was still a massive social media storm that he had to wade through. In light of the fallout, NFL analyst Colin Cowherd observed that when a player wins, fans and teammates are able to forgive many acts and mistakes. However, once the player begins to lose, then true feelings come out. He also noted that nobody hears about any agendas or grudges during the season.

Meanwhile, Brooks said, “This wouldn’t be a big controversy with the Saints, if we were not involved in this virtual reality world that we’re living in. The locker room has a fixed checks and balances system, where guys can call each other out when they feel like a teammate has stepped out of the team fabric.

What else did Brooks say about Drew Brees?

The former scout insisted that players normally have no issues with their contemporaries having different opinions. He also said that the players were angry, not because it was his opinion or his loyalty to the flag. Instead, they were furious that he dismissed their feelings, and that not everyone shares his opinion on the American flag.

As a parting note, Brooks said, “Brees’ comments, It didn’t appear that he had the respect for his teammates. That’s why they were quick to challenge him and rebuked him in a public arena.”

Brees’ apology may soothe some of the savage beasts, but he is far from being out of the woods. So, the 41-year-old has to work extremely hard to re-earn his teammates’ respect. Admittedly, this is easier said than done. However, Brees is the kind of person who would be willing to earnestly make up for his insensitivity.
