Pittsburgh Star is not shy about speaking his mind, especially when it comes to being a running back in the league. As the Steelers wrapped up their offseason workouts, he made a strong case for why running backs deserve more respect and recognition. The 25 YO highlighted the vital role that running backs play in many offenses, as they contribute in multiple ways. He believes that it is one of the hardest positions in football.

Steelers’ talented RB Najee Harris was appalled by the release of Dalvin Cook, one of the league’s top running backs. He saw it as another example of how the NFL undervalues his position after three other elite running backs were denied the chance to test the free-agent market by the franchise tag.

Najee stated that he supports the sentiments shared by other players who feel the same way. Harris, being a running back himself, understands the struggles and believes that any aspiring running back entering the league should be aware that running backs are not typically rewarded with high pay.

In the video, Najee stated, “It’s [Running Back] almost as if you’re a queen in chess because you could do a lot of things. You could be implemented in the offense so much. For them to say the position is not as valued, it’s kind of crazy.” Najee expressed his frustration and disbelief at the NFL’s attitude toward running backs, calling it the “craziest thing possible.”

Najee Harris has been a star running back in the NFL, but he has also seen the harsh reality of how his position is valued by the league. Najee was shocked and dismayed when some of the best running backs in the game, such as Dalvin Cook, Ezekiel Elliott, Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, and Tony Pollard, were either cut or tagged by their teams, leaving them with uncertain futures.

“To see people like that get released, especially in my position, it’s like, ‘Damn, what did they do?’”– RB Najee Harris, and further, “Is it because of their age? Dalvin Cook is coming off multiple 1,000-yard seasons. What? I don’t know. Is it money from the team? They got to pay somebody? I don’t know. But it’s eye-opening, for sure.”

Despite this, Harris maintains a deep love for the position, considering it an art, and believes that running backs possess a diverse skill set and are versatile players who can contribute in multiple ways. Therefore, Harris finds it astonishing that the NFL does not value the position as much as he thinks it should.
