Often the family of a star player rises to fame with the star player themself. This phenomenon happened with the Kansas City Chiefs QB, Patrick Mahomes’ brother Jackson Mahomes. Younger Mahomes felt like the black sheep of the family. Since his father is a famous MLB pitcher, Pat Mahomes Sr., and his brother is a star QB, he usually felt overshadowed. But he moved on to become a popular name on the video-sharing platform TikTok.
Understandably, the fans of Jackson Mahomes’ dad and brother would hold him up to a certain standard. For younger Mahomes, living under the shadow of the two great athletes was not an easy ride. And growing up in a family which held sports in such a high regard was difficult for him. The situation changed as he started creating content for TikTok.

While growing up, people recognized him because of his famous family members. He wanted to make his own identity apart from them. He said, “I’ll never forget the first time that I was at a football game or at a store when people came up to me noticing me as Jackson from TikTok and not just Patrick Mahomes’ brother.” Jackson Mahomes then launched his apparel brand called Unathletic. “I found my most confident self when I realized that it’s OK to be unathletic.”
