Jacksonville Jaguars endured a tough outing in the NFL last season. The AFC South franchise finished the season with a 1-15 record, which was the worst in the league last season. Hence, they will have the right to pick the first overall player at this year’s draft.

Jacksonville Jaguars face a crucial 2021 season with new coach Urban Meyer

Speaking to the team’s official website, coach Meyer had a positive take with respect to his defense. He believes a strong backline is what the Jaguars need to focus on instead of bringing in young stars.

“I always believe you build your team around the defensive line, and then you move backwards – so that’s what we’re going to do. The defensive line will be solidified first, then we’ll move to the back of the defense. Our defensive secondary needs to be revamped at a few spots,” Urban added.

With respect to Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence, here’s what coach Meyer had to say.

“I thought he did great. We’ve had a couple of Zoom calls with him, and he has been great. We like where we’re at with him. You are allowed to do that. You sit in those meetings and you learn a lot. Yes, we have done that. That’s essential, to find out the starting point of the football acumen – and then how are they at learning. There’s only one way,” Meyer said earlier this week.

Lawrence underwent surgery on his non-throwing shoulder last month. He is expected to return to full fitness in time for the preseason. But only time will if coach Meyer can help put a suitable offense around the youngster as the Jaguars continue to build their roster.

Will the AFC South have a new champion this year when the season draws to a close? For the sake of their fans, let’s hope they do.
