The Dallas Cowboys are waiting for that elusive Super Bowl for a long time now. And the fans are putting pressure on the franchise owner Jerry Jones to do something about it. Jones recently compared his approach to roster building to that of this season’s Super Bowl contenders, the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, ex-Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson has come out to dismiss such outlandish claims.

The Cowboys crashed out of the playoffs with a divisional-round loss to the San Francisco 49ers. And with that, another season went by without any real success for the once-dominant franchise.

Ex-Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson responded to billionaire Jerry Jones comparing the Eagles’ run to Super Bowl LVII to that of the Los Angeles Rams last season. And through that comparison, Jones tried to justify his approach towards roster building despite little success on the field. But Johnson said that even the Eagles owner asked him about Jones’ comments on the Philadelphia franchise.

“I said, ‘I have no idea.’ Philadelphia has a couple of first-round picks in the [upcoming] NFL Draft. They’ve got extra picks down the road. They’ve got some very talented players. They’ve got some talented young players. I think the Philadelphia Eagles are gonna be good for a long time,” Johnson told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Jones had said that he can see a couple of teams getting to the Super Bowl by emptying their draft bucket. The 80-year-old said he can do it too but if the team misses on capitalizing it, it becomes a very long road back in. But Johnson doesn’t agree with the statements. That is because the Eagles have their draft picks intact. And they have built the majority of the roster through draft picks or undrafted free agency.

Johnson coached the Cowboys to two Super Bowl titles at the start of the Jerry Jones era in Dallas. He joined the franchise in 1989 when Jones acquired it and remained the head coach till the 1993 title win. But immediately after that, Jones and Johnson fell out, prompting the latter to depart.
