In an interview with CNBC, Jones revealed that he met Dan Burke, a TV executive, in 1989. Burke convinced the Cowboys owner that the NFL is a bigger soap opera than Hollywood. Nothing more to say. The cash was ready to be put to work, and Texas businessmen never shy away from an opportunity.

Consequently, the Cowboys make more than $980 million in revenue. It’s not too shabby for a billionaire. Every penny counts for Jones, and he wouldn’t mind taking his cut from the multi-million dollar revenue. Taking the Cowboys from $150 million to $980 million in per year revenue over 30 years is a massive jump. A 486% jump, to be exact, since business is built on numbers.

Jerry Jones recalls, “I had a great TV executive named Dan Burke. In 1989, he said I could hire anybody in Hollywood and couldn’t come up with all the soap operas that were going on during and off the season. On the field, off the field, as you can in the NFL. It’s a soap opera every day that creates a lot of interest that creates if you will it becomes irrelevant and I think that’s what it’s about.”
