Dallas Cowboys is one of the biggest sports teams in the world. With such a high-value sports team, it is natural for its owner to be extremely wealthy. But what if someone told you that the franchise’s legendary owner isn’t even the richest in his own locality? Jerry Jones, who has an estimated net worth of $13.3 billion, isn’t at the summit of the riches in the place he calls home.

Jones bought the Cowboys back in 1989 and turned the franchise into a commercial behemoth. The 80-year-old billionaire even features on the prestigious Forbes list. But someone still beat him to the title of the richest in the neighborhood.

Jerry Jones might be the owner of ‘Team America’ but he isn’t the top dawg when it comes to Dallas Fort Worth. That position goes to Alice Walton, the sole heiress of the Walmart empire. And she is number one by quite a mile with an estimated net worth of $56.7 billion, according to Forbes.

Jones takes the number two position in the locality with an estimated net worth of 13.3 billion. While Walton takes the 21st place on the Forbes list, Jones lies at number 133. That is a huge difference in wealth. Maybe owning a retail giant is more lucrative than owning a team in the NFL. Especially if the team hasn’t won the Super Bowl in almost three decades.

Banking giant Andrew Beal, Investment Banker Ken Fisher, and Venture Capitalist David Bonderman complete the top five in the area. Maybe the neighborhood should be rechristened as ‘Billionaireville’. However, Jerry Jones’ journey to becoming the Owner of one of the biggest teams in the NFL is nothing less than legendary.

Jerry Jones has always had a nose for money. But not all of his business ventures took off. He did everything, from opening a pizza parlor chain to working in his father’s insurance company. Then suddenly, he struck oil. Literally.

‘Jones Oil and Land Lease’ became successful as an oil and natural gas exploration company in Arkansas. Jerry made millions out of the venture. He then used 350 of the millions of dollars to purchase the Cowboys in 1989. He turned the team into serial Super Bowl champions, winning three titles in the next seven years.
