It is very common for NFL players to make fashion statements. While sometimes these can go a bit too extravagant, most are able to pull off the look they intend to. And that was probably what San Francisco 49ers’ QB Jimmy Garoppolo had in mind when he showed up for the game in a rose-colored suit. What he probably didn’t expect to do was make Arizona Cardinals’ Colt McCoy look like an absolute train wreck in comparison.

In stark contrast to his opponent, McCoy walked in wearing a checkered shirt. That’s it. Nothing too flashy, nothing too eye-catching. But it nevertheless made him the subject of jokes, at least in the Twitter community. Fans made hilarious comparisons between McCoy and Garoppolo, and suggest interesting alternate careers.

Although some expected the simply dressed McCoy to beat the flashy-looking Garoppolo, the 49ers managed to overwhelmingly trounce the Cardinals, looting fans of potential meme content. Maybe Garoppolo was aiming to psychologically damage his rival QB?

The Second quarter saw the 49ers outscore the Cardinals 17-7. And in the second half, the Cardinals managed to score a total of 0 points, while the 49ers went rampant to add another 21 to the tally. The game ended with the 49ers winning, 38-10.

Garropolo ended the night with 20/29 passes for 228 yards and 4 touchdowns, while McCoy had 24/34 for 218 yards and no touchdowns. Trace McSorley, who replaced McCoy when the game seemed lost, managed 6/10 for 59 yards. Both Cardinals’ QBs threw an interception each.

The win sees the 49ers claim the top spot in the NFC West with 6-4, while the Cardinals fall to 4-7. Playoff chances are looking very slim for the Cardinals, who now languish in 3rd behind the 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks. And with opponents such as the Los Angeles Chargers in their remaining games, things look very grim.
