Aaron Rodgers is leaving the Green Bay Packers after spending his whole career with the franchise. And according to the available information, his most likely destination is the New York Jets. But according to a former NFL player, it isn’t his first choice. He actually wanted to play in Miami, just like the recently retired Tom Brady.

Was the Jets the second choice for Aaron Rodgers?

The Jets may be closing in on Aaron Rodgers as their next QB, but according to former NFL defensive end Marcellus Wiley, it isn’t where A-Rod wanted to play. He gave the news citing a source close to the QB, although he said he won’t reveal the name, so there is no trouble. Wiley believes that Rodgers wanted to play for the Miami Dolphins.

“There is a deal on the table from the Jets that is hella tempting. And I heard that Aaron don’t really want to play for the Jets, that’s like his second choice. His first choice was Miami, but then they picked up Tua’s fifth year option,” Wiley said on his ‘More to it’ podcast.

Rodgers isn’t the first high-profile QB who got linked with the Dolphins. Before Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL, rumors about him joining the Dolphins were rife. Some fans even filmed him looking at schools in the city for his kids. That gave more fodder to the rumor mills.

The QB conundrum with the Dolphins

Aaron Rodgers is the Jets’ ticket to salvation. The franchise has struggled in recent years and wants to sign the four-time NFL MVP as a short-term solution. And they might just get a chance to shoot their shot at the Super Bowl if everything goes by plan. And Rodgers wants a change of scenery away from the Packers. It is a win-win solution for both parties.

The Dolphins are in a conundrum of their own. They love Tua Tagovailoa but there are concerns about his injury record. He missed a large chunk of the 2022 season due to injuries. And he did not feature in the team’s playoff clash with the Buffalo Bills. Although the Dolphins have picked Tagovailoa’s fifth-year option, they might still need a QB. But if it is Rodgers, he would want to start.

All in all, the Jets are still Rodgers’ most likely destination. But how long will he make the fans wait before revealing it?
