While Patrick Mahomes is undoubtedly a one-man force, it will be challenging for him to carry the entire load in the upcoming games. The Kansas City Chiefs‘ performance against the Detroit Lions didn’t leave any Chiefs fans thrilled. To compensate for their recent loss, the Chiefs made a significant addition to their roster by signing the highly acclaimed player, Chris Jones, to a one-year deal worth a base amount of $19.5 million.

With high hopes for victories in the upcoming games, the Chiefs and their fans were hit with some devastating news recently, further complicating the team’s situation. They are currently grappling with three significant challenges that could pose a formidable challenge for Patrick Mahomes and his army.

The Kansas City Chiefs have issued their injury report, and it contains some concerning news. Several key players on both offense and defense were limited during Wednesday’s practice. Travis Kelce returned to practice on Wednesday after missing Week 1 with an injury. He was out of the field last week because of a hyperextended knee injury that resulted in a bone bruise. On the other hand, Chris Jones, a star defensive lineman, resumed practicing after ending his holdout but was put on the no-injury list for rest.

The Chiefs’ practice on Wednesday was restricted for Kelce and Jones as they get ready for Week 2. However, there is another injury concern that may raise some eyebrows. L’Jarius Sneed, a cornerback, has returned to the injury list after missing a considerable amount of training camp and the whole preseason due to a knee problem. Additionally, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire missed practice due to illness.

The absence of these players from the lineup could pose challenges for Patrick Mahomes and coach Andy Reid as they aim to maintain their reigning champion status.

The least problematic part of Wednesday’s practice concerned the two restricted superstars in Kansas City. Jones, who hasn’t been on the team’s field since February, is readjusting, but Kelce is still recovering from an injury. However, as per the recent update, all signs are showing that Kelce could return in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, barring any unforeseen setbacks.

Moreover, it seems logical for the team to limit his exertion at first to minimize knee swelling. Jones jokingly mentioned that he needed to practice to see if he was in “football shape” at his news conference on Wednesday. In the end, each player on the injured list will have their development carefully watched throughout the week.

It’s impossible to predict who will be available on Sunday based only on a practice report because of Kelce’s return from injury, Jones’s return from a holdout, Sneed’s knee problems, and Edwards-Helaire’s health. However, as the week progresses, a clearer picture will appear.
