Orlando Brown Jr, the left tackle, gets his first franchise tag from the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2022 season on Monday. Certainly, the team became the first side to exercise their tagging power and retain their star player this season.

Now the city will get more time and opportunity to carry out their long-term negotiations with Brown and come to a viable conclusion.

Whether or not Brown accepts the deal, he can continue playing for the team at least for one more season. Brown completed his four-year rookie contract in 2021 and made a progressive contribution to the team. While everyone was eying for a possible update on Tyrann Mathieu, Brown’s deal stunned the fans and followers.

Brown gets a pay raise from Kansas City Chiefs

During the NFL Scouting Combine, the Chiefs general manager Brett Veach asserted that they would be trying their best to get Brown to their side and reap the benefits of his game. While the 26-year-old star was allowed to hit the unrestricted agency this offseason, the Chiefs made sure that they get enough time to make a deal with him.

Even if they are unable to match an offer, Brown can continue with the team for this season.

He is projected to receive nearly $17 million as compensation. And might revamp the pay if he gets a long-term contract from the franchise. This will assure Brown his fixed money and the team a fixed resource to look up to.

What does this imply for Tyrann Mathieu?
