Twenty years ago, who would have thought the NFL would have a GOAT with 7 Super Bowl rings? Tom Brady has left his mark in the mind of every fan and NFL player. However, sports commentator and football coach John Madden spotted Brady’s talent and compared him to one of the game’s all-time greats. He compared him to the former QB and NFL legend Joe Montana.

Madden spotted a young talent during a New England Patriots match more than 20 years ago. He said that Brady is so calm on the field that he reminds him of Joe Montana. Little did he know that TB12 would surpass the records and stature set by the Niners’ QB in the future. 44 years old, Bucs QB is still going strong and is set to play another season.

Montana, also known as ‘Joe Cool’, is the QB who never lost in any of the four Super Bowl appearances. This is a record that very few can even attempt to break, let alone reach his greatness. Moreover, this is exactly what the late NFL icon, John Madden, was talking about while noticing Brady. He pointed out that the Patriots‘ QB has the potential to reach the level of Joe Montana, but it is too early to judge.

Further, the two greats never got a chance to lock horns against each other. But considering their stats, Brady fares well ahead of the 66-year-old. In addition, both QBs have played for two teams in their careers. Montana played for the 49ers and the Chiefs. Whereas Brady has played for the Patriots and the Buccaneers.

How does Tom Brady compare to Joe Montana in stats?

Tom Brady has more than twice as many career passing yards as Joe Montana. The 4x Super Bowl champion played from 1979 to 1994. In addition, during his career, Montana won 117 games and lost 47. The Hall of Famer’s career passing yards is recorded at 40,551 yards, along with 273 passing TDs.
