The joke was a subtle effort from the host and his team to link the two controversial elements. It was a stroke of genius that made the crowd react with an enthusiastic response to his last joke. The controversies involving Cosby and the Patriots was a misdirect no one saw coming.

While it was a significant breach, the league ultimately were made to hand out a 4-game suspension for Brady.
