Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette was recounting a hysterical story about why he came back to the team after the return of quarterback Tom Brady. The Buccaneers’ RB was almost leaving the franchise following the disappointing end of the 2021 NFL campaign. But it seems a call from his QB was enough to off-put Fournette from joining Brady’s old team, the New England Patriots.

Following the first day of the minicamp, Fournette spoke to the reporters about his decision to leave this season.
While talking about his search, Fournette states, “Oh! I was just shopping around, man. Just seeing what best fits me. You know, when he signed back he called me like, ‘Man, what’s your a** doing up there?’ I am like, ‘kind of figuring, trying to figure some things out. So…uh, he signed back, it was a no-brainer.”

While Fournette’s comments suggest there to be a close bond as teammates, Brady believes in him to be a key man. The response from Fournette during the presser evoked uncontrollable laughter in the room upon the knowledge that he was joining the Patriots. Brady seems to be unwilling to let his former team sign any player of his own in the 2022 NFL campaign.
Tom Brady wants ‘Lombardi’ Lenny for their revenge tour
After re-signing with the team this offseason by committing to a 3-year, $21 million deal, Fournette always believed Brady to come back. The pair have had a successful partnership and even won a Super Bowl title in 2020. The Buccaneers RB’s efforts in the postseason earned him the nickname, ‘Lombardi Lenny’. But both Brady and Fournette seem to be unhappy about last season’s outcome and hope to get an opportunity to change it in 2022.
Following the first day of minicamp, Fournette adds that while the Buccaneers QB is aging, he hasn’t lost any of his footballing abilities. He believes that their relationship over the past 3 seasons makes them ready to deliver the goods again.
In 2021, after playing 14 games, Fournette recorded 1,266 rushing yards while scoring 10 TDs.
