The superstar American rapper Lil Wayne is known to be a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan. He never fails to support Packers games, especially during the playoffs. He was also present in the Lambeau Stadium when the Packers met the 49ers in the Divisional Round earlier this year.
Surprisingly, the Grammy Award-winning rapper hails from New Orleans does not support his home team. The New Orleans Saints does not catch his fancy, and he does not have that connect with the team either. Though surprising, he had a story backing up his choice.

During his recent appearance at the I AM ATHLETE podcast, former NFL wide receiver Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson got equally as curious about it. He asked Lil Wayne how come he is a Packers fan when he was born and brought up in New Orleans. Wayne revealed an interesting story behind it.

“When I was coming up, the Saints was, you know, there was a real bad team,” Lil Wayne said. Clearly he had no passion towards his home team. “So it was kind of like we live in a city like that you know, you got to have that ultimate team,” he added. “You know how I go right. You gotta have that ultimate team.”

The Green Bay Packers were certainly the ultimate team Lil Wayne was looking for. And oh boy, that Brett Favre spell could make anyone fall in love with the Packers. His 1997 Super Bowl spell was clearly one of his the best campaigns ever. And the fact that Wayne grew up playing Madden with Brett Favre and Green Bay Packers, he grew a soft side for the franchise.
