Green Bay Packers’ front office needs to make some huge decisions this off-season. After the news of Aaron Rodgers finally joining the Jets, the team could have to say goodbye to some other names as well. As many of the Green Bay players came out publicly stating that they want Aaron Rodgers to stay, some others might just end up leaving with him. Reports have emerged of New York Jets eyeing up some of Rodgers’ teammates as well. However, Las Vegas Raiders might be the biggest hurdle in one of those deals.

The Raiders are reportedly looking out for Marcedes Lewis, one of Rodgers’ favorites, venerable tight end. The Las Vegas franchise might just end up spoiling the Jets’ idea of reuniting Rodgers with Lewis.

Las Vegas looking for the raid

ESPN’s Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter took to Twitter to share some of the rumblings going on in Green Bay, “Packers’ veteran free-agent TE Marcedes Lewis, who spent the past five seasons in Green Bay, has drawn interest from, amongst others, the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders, per league sources“.

Rodgers had always understood Lewis’ impact on the team, “A guy like Marcedes Lewis, he’s an important cog in the wheel of the locker room and the momentum of the team, That’s a guy I want to finish my career with. If I’m playing, I want that guy next to me,” Rodgers said on ‘Pat McAfee Show’.

Lewis went on to showcase his dominance at the blocking tight end position, “The way I play the tight end position, I’m not necessarily dodging people. I’m puttin’ people in the ground. So, I’m the one that’s enforcing that pain.

Maybe this approach is what has lured the Raiders toward Lewis as well. The Las Vegas Raiders would certainly benefit from Lewis’s tough grit mentality, and years of experience, as the 39-year-old enters his  17th season in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers’ ideal team

New York Jets appear committed to surround Aaron Rodgers with some familiar names to make him comfortable. In addition to keeping an eye out for Mercedes Lewis, the Jets are also aware of receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb. All three of these players enjoy the confidence of Aaron Rodgers and are highly valued by the former MVP.

The Jets ownership met with Rodgers earlier in California, which almost sealed the deal for the team. As the situation currently stands, the NFL world is excited to see Rodgers in a Jets uniform. New York intends to make the transition as smooth for Aaron Rodgers as possible, and maybe the trick to doing that is surrounding him with familiar faces.
