After playing in the NFL for San Francisco 49ers, former QB Colin Kaepernick has moved on to a life as a civil rights activist in America. Ever since the shift, Kaepernick has been working for the people who were racially discriminated against in the country. Last month, he also celebrated the tenth anniversary of the ‘Know Your Rights Camp’, which is helping transform the lives of youths in LA. He even released his graphic novel ‘Change the Game’, which talks about his life in America being fostered by white parents.

But Charlamagne Tha Dog, who supported Kaepernick’s initial efforts as a civil rights activist, does not seem to agree with the way his new book portrays Kaepernick’s parents.

While people appreciate Kaepenick’s efforts against police brutality and racism, his comments on facing racism with his adoptive parents have caused an uproar. In a recent episode of ‘Comedy Shorts’ on Youtube, Andrew Schulz and Charlamagne Tha God discussed the topic of the former QB calling his adoptive parent’s behavior problematic. While discussing Kaepernick calling out his parents for not liking his hairstyle, Charlemagne said that is just normal parental behavior by parents for their kids.

When Snoop Dogg had that murder case, my dad had a fit. Especially when I started having trouble in school, he made me cut my hair. Because for whatever reason, me having a big Afro and wanting to get cornrows and wearing Chuck Taylor’s equated to wanting to be a thug…”

Kaepernick’s call out to parents was not well received by people

As a young boy, Kaepernick was brought up by white adoptive parents. But recently, he has gone public to call them out for internal racism he faced at home. This has not been received well by the community. Even former NFL DE Marcellus Wiley was of the opinion that Kap’s adoptive parents were just trying to protect him as a teenager. According to Wiley, Kaepernick is facing a dilemma over his own origin of identity. Kap’s remarks also brought in a strong response from UFC fighter Jake Shields, who stated, “This is the thanks they get”.
