The Stefon Diggs saga with the Buffalo Bills has grabbed the attention of every football fan. With every move of his under a microscope, following his unprecedented exit from the team’s training camp, severe concerns about his future have arisen. As details of the situation continue to flow in, NFL Insider Mike Florio drew an interesting comparison about the Diggs-Bills situation, which has many intrigued.

The original dispute between the team and Diggs originated after their disappointing loss in their divisional-round matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. Following the loss, visuals of a frustrated Diggs berating his QB Josh Allen went viral. Ever since then, the relationship between the WR and his team has been contentious. But after Florio’s uncanny yet apt comparison to the disgruntled exit of Antonio Brown, there is finally some clarity on Diggs’ situation.

As Florio explained on the Rich Eisen Show, Stefon Diggs’ situation with the Bills seems eerily reminiscent of Antonio Brown’s infamous meltdown during his last game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brown’s public meltdown in his last game had been of much debate after the WR stormed off the field in the middle of a game.

“Remember when AB (Antonio Brown) quit on the Bucs and we thought he just stormed off. And then we found out Bruce Arians told him to get the F out,” Florio said on the show.

Both cases, Diggs and Brown, involve star receivers expressing their frustrations with their team in a highly public manner. Brown’s on-field dispute with coach Bruce Arians led to his storming off the field, effectively marking the end of his NFL career. While the circumstances may differ, the comparison does bring to question the identity of the catalyst of the dispute between the team’s management and the 3x pro bowler.

Unlike Antonio Brown, who was released by the Buccaneers following his meltdown, Stefon Diggs faces a more complex situation due to his contract with the Bills. Florio suggested that the team is unlikely to trade Diggs due to the financial implications of his contract. If the WR decides to sit out the season, he owes the team $33.6 Million, which he has already received.

“That gets a guy to the position pretty quickly, where he’s going to show up. He doesn’t want to pay back that 33.6 pre-tax, then he’s got to go to the IRS and get his taxes back. It’s a major pain in the butt.”

This leaves the star receiver with limited options, forcing him to either resolve his issues with the team and continue playing or risk losing money by sitting out. The ball is now in Diggs’ court, as he needs to figure out if there is still the possibility of reconciliation with Allen and the team.
