However, many jobs have opened up since many franchises have fired their head coaches this season, including the Panthers, the Colts, and others. According to the latest reports, Payton is keeping a close eye on two particular teams, i.e. Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Chargers.

Sean Payton is eying a comeback to coaching

As per Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano of ESPN, Payton is looking at the Cardinals and Chargers for a potential job opening. Also, the former Saints HC is considering those teams for another reason since their quarterback situation is quite stable.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is quite young and has a great future ahead. As for the Cardinals, their star quarterback Kyler Murray recently extended his contract with them. Hence, both teams have a pretty great situation with their quarterbacks, and Payton can straightway go into the team and provide his experience.

Despite the interests, there is still one roadblock for the other teams if they want to sign the former Saints’ head coach. When Payton stepped down as the HC of the Saints last year, he did not terminate his contract. As a result, he is still under contract with the Saints; if any other team wants to sign Payton as their HC, they have to make a deal with the Saints. Notably, Payton still has two years remaining on his current contract with the Saints.
