The reigning Super Bowl Champions, LA Rams, face another setback in their offensive unit ahead of Week 6. Star Running Back Cam Akers will not play for the side on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. There is a scope for adding new prospects; meanwhile, head coach Sean McVay wants to make the expectations clear ahead of the match-up.

The third-year Running Back Cam Akers was not available for Thursday’s practice session and missed the Friday camp too. This raised several eyebrows as to what the reason behind his absence was. Subsequently, head coach Sean McVay addressed the issue in a press conference ahead of the Week 6 game. “We’re going through some different things with Cam,” McVay said.

“He wasn’t here yesterday. Well, I’m working through some different things with Cam he wasn’t here yesterday he won’t be here today and he’ll be out for the game, and we’re just working through some different stuff want to be able to keep that house and so I’ll leave that where that’s at right now as it relates to Cam,” he added.

If the franchise wishes to defend the championship title, wins are necessary to improve their season record, as they are only 2-3 after a loss against the Dallas Cowboys last week. Akers happens to be the lead rusher for the side with 151 yards and a touchdown in 51 carries this season.

However, he was unable to duplicate his rookie season performance, ever since recovering from an Achilles injury he incurred last year. The RB was benched for almost the entire 2021 season and returned for the regular season finale, playing a pivotal role in their postseason run for the title.

If not Akers, there needs to be an alternate solution to make up for the loss. Although his absence is cited as a personal issue, his availability beyond Week 6 is not predictable.

McVay affirmed that running backs Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown, will join the practice squad for Sunday’s preparation. “Everybody’s got to step up because Cam, he played a big role in this offense and was a huge part of this offense,” Henderson said. “So, we just got to go out and execute and do our best,” he added.
