After Kyler Murray’s contract extension last Thursday, it is predictable that Lamar Jackson is next, and he is sure to bag a hefty amount when he sits for negotiations. Recently, the Broncos Legend Shannon Sharpe sat with Skip Bayless on their popular show UNDISPUTED to discuss the probabilities and figure out some math for Jackson, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2022.

Sharpe claimed that Jackson is not going to nod for a single penny less than Murray’s, and that would be his base value for negotiations. “I think Lamar Jackson is looking at something 110, 115, maybe 120 at the time of signing, maybe 200 and at least 200 million guaranteed,” he said on the show, discussing with Skip Bayless on the other side.

“So Kyler’s like 46 a year, so he’s looking at 46.5, 47, 48. He might be looking at Aaron Rodgers, 50 million a year. I don’t believe he does a deal that comes in less than 46.1 a year. So that’s the starting point right there,” he explained.
The Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is one of the few signal-callers in the league to have built a successful rookie career. Today he is one of the top-tier quarterbacks among other active signal-callers in the NFL. So, naturally, Jackson having much better records than the Cardinals’ quarterback, won’t settle for less.

As per the reports, Kyler Murray has signed a five-year $230.5 million contract with $160 million guaranteed. This assures him a total average of $46.1 million per year behind Packers QB Aaron Rodgers’ $50 million AAV.
What’s up with Lamar Jackson asking for more time before signing the extension?
Despite the team management and front office getting ready to extend him an offer, Lamar Jackson rejected all those requests. Per the reports, Jackson has told the Ravens that he’s currently too focused on having his best possible year, and he doesn’t want to do a deal until the 2022 season is over.

But does that mean it was all part of Jackson’s plan to wait until all the dust settles and jump for final negotiations with the management? Well, a theory that holds much gravity at this point. The 25-year-old is a two-time Pro Bowler and was named NFL MVP in 2019.
He was successful in leading the offensive unit as a starter with a 37-12 record, taking the side to the playoffs three times in his career. Although the season has not started yet, it will be interesting to see if Jackson nodes for an extension anytime soon.
