Magic Johnson joins the fray
Magic Johnson is a hero in Los Angeles and for many across the world. But his latest dive into the ownership of the Commanders must certainly have made him a new fan favorite in Washington DC. Johnson joins the ownership group led by 76ers co-owner Josh Harris and billionaire Mitchell Rales. The group finally outbid a Jeff Bezos-led contingent to gain control of the Commanders’ organization.
The deal, at $6 Billion, is set to make the Commanders the most expensive sale of a sports franchise. Johnson’s involvement in the purchase is a major coup for the new ownership group. He brings not only a wealth of experience in sports ownership but also a level of star power that could help to reinvigorate the Commanders’ fan base. For a franchise that has struggled to maintain relevance in recent years, the addition of Magic Johnson could be just what they need to turn things around.
