Running back positions in the NFL, are currently searching for a new team with more oxygen. One Free agent RB’s dissatisfaction stems from the way his position is treated within the league, as he believes that being a running back is currently the least favorable position to play. In the previous season, Ex-Chiefs joined forces with Javonte Williams to form a formidable duo for the Broncos, amassing numerous yards and touchdowns. However, unexpectedly, the Broncos released him in the middle of the season. Subsequently, he signed with the Chiefs but did not see any playing time with them. Consequently, he has once again become a free agent.

Expressing his frustrations, Melvin Gordon III claims that NFL teams prefer young and inexpensive running backs who are selected in the later rounds of the draft. Additionally, he takes an indirect swipe at Aaron Rodgers‘ new offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who happened to be his coach during his time in Denver.

Gordon did not enjoy his time playing under Hackett

Reflecting on the previous season, Gordon candidly admitted that the team encountered numerous challenges, emphasizing the severity of the situation by repeating it three times. “The situation wasn’t, it wasn’t good. It wasn’t good. It wasn’t good,” Gordon exclaimed. Nonetheless, he expressed optimism about the team’s current state, acknowledging that their success hinges on Wilson’s performance. In light of their disappointing previous record, Gordon eagerly anticipates a resurgence, hoping for a significant improvement in the number of games won.

“But like I said, I think they’ve got the pieces there now that’s gonna put him [Russell Wilson] in the best situation. Now, what [Wilson will] do this year? It’s on him, but I definitely believe they’ll be a better football team than they were last year.”

Though Gordon’s words may seem critical of Nathaniel Hackett, the coach from the previous year, it is undeniable that Hackett’s poor leadership and numerous mistakes resulted in his dismissal after just one season. Clearly, Gordon did not find his time playing under Hackett to be enjoyable.

Running Backs Undervalued and Uncompensated in the NFL?

In a recent interview on ‘The Jim Rome Show,’ Gordon stated, “We just don’t get no love, it’s literally the worst position to play in the NFL right now, it s**ks.” He believes running backs are undervalued and not well compensated by teams. Although Gordon won the Super Bowl with the Chiefs, he didn’t have any game appearances for them.

One team that could use a veteran running back like Gordon is the New York Jets. They have Hackett as their offensive coordinator, who knows Gordon from their time together in Denver. The Jets are also rumored to be interested in other star running backs, such as Ezekiel Elliott and Dalvin Cook. However, Gordon may have hurt his chances of joining the Jets by criticizing his position and Nathaniel Hackett indirectly.

Anthony Pettis’ quote “Attitude determines efforts” upholds a sports-centric ideology that attracted me to this vibrant world of team spirit, enthusiasm, and emotions. More specifically, it was the UFC domain that encouraged my strive as an avid follower. Soon I found myself resonating with another divergent sport- the American football. Ironically, just like UFC, its in-game energy brought out the calmness within me. This aspect, eventually, led me to step into the arena of writing, and I cultivated a love for NFL through words, stories, and experiences. Precisely, I have come to enjoy watching QB of the Bengals, Joe Burrow, take on the field and exhibit his magic. It is his serenity and accuracy during the match that inspires me to narrate the insider scoop on the player's thoughts and feelings. This allows my articles to contrive on three pillars—facts, analysis, and opinions. Throughout my journey, hence, I have covered varied aspects of the matches, from the core sport highlights to the off-court banter. I believe this connection to the NFL game on so many levels has become my reason for generating over 700 articles, hoarding the interest of thousands of readers, and achieving Publishing Rights at EssentiallySports. Away from the NFL enthusiasm, I spend my time glued to the screen watching other sports and gaining beneficial knowledge.
