This year’s offseason featured a lot of noise surrounding potential trade deals, freshly released players and free agents, also a list of unhappy players. The Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers faceoff was the highlight of this summer. However, it now seems that the reigning NFL MVP will remain in Wisconsin.

Another NFL star who made headlines over the last few months was New Orleans Saints wide receiver, Michael Thomas. The 28-year old enjoyed a fine season in 2019 but spent a lot of time on the sidelines last season due to multiple injury struggles. In fact, the player was set to undergo surgery in the offseason.

But when that didn’t happen, coach Sean Payton was not a happy man.

Michael Thomas scheduled to attend the Saints vs Ravens preseason face-off

As per the latest reports, Michael Thomas underwent surgery to deal with an ankle injury (suffered in Week 1 of 2020 season against Tampa Bay Buccaneers) in June. Saints personnel, along with coach Payton, expected him to arrive in preseason with a healed ankle. But when that wasn’t the case, things reportedly took a turn for the worse.

There were initial rumours that the Saints were looking to offload their star man. While other news outlets claimed that Thomas felt ‘deceived’ and ‘betrayed’ by his employers. Coach Payton publicly revealed that ‘we would have like the surgery to happen earlier’.

Thomas responded by tweeting “They tried to damage your reputation. You saved theirs by not telling your side of the story.”

But as per Jeff Duncan of Nola.com, the star wideout will be present at Saturday’s preseason game against Baltimore Ravens. At request of who? Mr. Sean Payton himself. This might be a smart ploy by New Orleans to fend off potential vultures who might lure in and snap up Thomas in the blink of an eye.
