It’s been 140 days since the Mahomes household lost their matriarch. Patrick Mahomes’ maternal grandmother Debbie Bates breathed her last on April 6 this year after battling with multiple ailments. The family was devastated by the demise when they were just basking in the success of Mahomes’ Super Bowl victory- a victory Bates, an ardent supporter of the QB, would have equally cheered for.

However, Bates’ demise struck a hard blow at her daughter Randi Mahomes. Deeply attached to her mother, Randi did not have it easy when it came to coping with the void left behind.  While time has moved on, Randi has come to terms with the loss while also cherishing the memories with her mom.

Cherishing Debbie Bates’ memories

It is not an easy feat to go forward without your mother by your side. Ever since her mother Debbie Bates passed away, Randi has been working through her feelings, finding solace in the precious times with her mom. Recently, she took to her Instagram to pay tribute to her late mom on what would have been her birthday. The fifty-year-old went a stroll down memory lane as she posted a clip on her Instagram story featuring moments with her mom from the past.

She penned a teary tribute wishing her mom a heavenly birthday. “Happy Birthday Momma 🤍 i love you and miss you so very much…..still doesn’t feel real you are gone but I know you are in a much better place”, accompanying a picture where she was seen planting a kiss on her mom’s cheek.

Randi and Patrick Mahomes carry the legacy forward

The noble soul will be remembered forever, all thanks to Randi, who launched a meaningful initiative named ‘Honoring the Life of Debbie Martin Gates’ in her mom’s name, which garnered immense support from many. Randi established a scholarship, extending a helping hand to the children in need of education, a nod to her mother’s own dedicated service in the educational sector as a secretary at various schools.

The fifty-year-old also set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the cause. Through the happiness and empowerment, she brings to others, Randi feels her mother’s presence in a profound way.
