NBA and NFL players’ rivalries are not new. The topic of athletes crossing over between leagues has always generated interest and discussion. There are numerous examples that support this statement, such as a conversational argument between L.A. Clippers star Paul George and New England Patriots offensive tackle Calvin Anderson. However, there was a time when an NBA legend had something to say about NFL players, which might offend them.

Additionally, the Kelce brothers have previously discussed which NFL players could thrive in the NBA. Furthermore, six years ago, a prominent NBA player, Dwyane Wade took a jab at numerous NFL players, directly questioning their talent during a period of personal divorce-related legal matters. But what was the matter?

Approximately six years ago, Dwyane Wade made an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, during which he was asked about his perspective on NBA players potentially playing football, mentioning the NBA star LeBron James, who had a background in college football. Wade playfully questioned if James had performed well, to which Patrick likened him to Randy Moss, indicating that he indeed excelled.

Wade then expressed his belief that many basketball players could thrive in football, highlighting that the challenge lies not in talent but in the physical demands their bodies would endure. He stated, “I don’t think it’s a talent thing at all and vice versa. A lot of football players aren’t super talented could play on this course as well.”Apart from Wade’s comments, there have been other instances where both NFL and NBA players have engaged in discussions on this topic.

Wade is not the only one

Besides Wade, during an episode of Podcast P with Paul George, the eight-time NBA All-Star expressed his belief that football players might not successfully transition to the NBA. While he acknowledged the existence of previous stars like Julius Peppers and Tony Gonzalez who competed in both sports, he didn’t seem entirely convinced. Anderson, however, didn’t take George’s opinion lightly and responded with a strong counterargument. “Flopping leads to sacks or touchdowns in this league, not free throws 🤷🏿‍♂️.”

Similarly, Travis Kelce once suggested that Jimmy Graham would excel in basketball, while his brother Jason Kelce asserted that NFL players wouldn’t be able to make a significant impact on an NBA team.

Interestingly, Wade’s controversial remarks about NFL players were made during a time when he was facing personal controversies. Dwyane Wade and his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches-Wade tied the knot in 2002. However, their relationship encountered significant challenges soon after the birth of their second child, Zaya (for whom he took a bold decision later) leading to their separation in 2007.
