“Chris [Brown] got the talent, he just needed the direction,” Akon famously opined on an episode of Club Shay Shay, a podcast hosted by former Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe. The Senegalese crooner drew parallels between his fellow singer-songwriter and the legendary Michael Jackson, saying “… the only person, in my opinion, that could’ve achieved just as great of a legacy as [Michael Jackson] would’ve been Chris Brown,” given the type of creative minds he is surrounded by.

Nine months later, we find that man on the very same platform discussing, music, sports, most interestingly an alternative career option that he “definitely” could have pursued.

“Had you not chosen the music path, you would have been an NBA player,” said Shannon Sharpe before delving into what Chris Brown “has got going on.” “With a lot more discipline,” Brown was quick to add before going on to explain how he still loves the game of ball. The $50 million singer is known to be a terrific basketball player and plays “all the time.”

As far as “training and getting conditioned” is concerned, the pop star is already acclimated to being “a teen player” who has been playing the hoop since he was a young boy. He has been spotted demonstrating his basketball skills at numerous celebrity games and NBA all-star games as well. On being asked who he thinks amongst the celebrity singers are as good as him, Brown mentions J Cone, but believes he can beat him at a one-on-one game.

Kyrie Irving is his favorite basketball player as Brown feels that the eight-time All-Star Dallas Mavericks player has Tenacity but he is graceful.” Growing up, when the singer was into more regular games of basketball, he had many compare him to New Orleans Pelicans’ Christian James McCollum, given their similar features.

An episode of Club Shay Shay feels incomplete without a dialogue on sports, which is only justified given the fact that the host shares similar athletic interests with his A-list guest. He, however, spent more time with the huts than the hoops.

Shannon Sharpe and his football career
