The New England Patriots have come on full-action mode for the NFL draft this year. Bill Belichick moves his major focus towards their picks. It looks like they might have their next big thing in the build. The franchise, which has been focusing on the younger generation, gets a new weapon for their team the second-year quarterback, Tyquan Thornton.

Mac Jones, the New England Patriots’ second-year quarterback, advances to be set up with a youngblood force. They got a fast wideout in Round 2 after picking offensive lineman Cole Strange with their first-round pick off Thursday. In this draft, two AFC rivals are becoming quite friendly over the line. Moreover, their second transaction provided them with some new and modern weaponry.

The New England Patriots have selected their second overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Yet, they have again chosen an offensive player. Bill Belichick and the Patriots moved up four spots in the second round with the Kansas City Chiefs. This helped them land Baylor University WR Tyquan Thornton in exchange for the 54th and 158th overall picks in the draft.

Thornton, the wide receiver, is a 21-year-old speedster. The Baylor graduate was the fastest running receiver at the NFL Scouting Combine, with a 40 speed of 4.28 seconds and a vertical leap of 36 1/2 inches, and a broad jump of over 11 ft. He’s a legitimate deep weapon, susceptible to tear a defensive unit to shreds. The WR fills a need in New England that has existed for many years. His stats and movies both have an electrifying quality to them.

At 6-foot-2 and 181 pounds, he isn’t the biggest wide receiver, but he provides the Patriots with the dynamic X-receiver they’ve been lacking. Mac Jones has recently acquired a new firearm to operate. WR Tyquan is the Patriots’ only player representing Baylor after drafting defensive back Willie Andrews in the seventh round back in 2006.

Is Tyquan fulfilling the New England Patriots’ requirements?

Thornton, a 6-foot-2, 181-pound native of Miami, Florida, appeared in 42 games for Baylor over 4 seasons, catching 143 receptions for 2,242 yardage and 19 scores. He grabbed a career-high 62 catches for 948 yards with 10 touchdowns as a senior last fall, placing second in the Big 12 with his performance.

Thornton topped the Bears in catches, yards receiving, and scores in 2021. He ranks second inside the Big 12 with 10 receiving touchdowns. He managed all this while skipping 3 matches due to an unidentified ailment, and his athletic promise. This includes a 4.28 40-yard sprint at the NFL Scouting Combine, convinced the Patriots to trade up and add a passing collector for quarterback Mac Jones to aim. The Pats truly got a steal with Tyquan this year.

The Patriots have never had a true top-of-the-defense target in a long time, preferring to draft bulkier receivers like N’Keal Harry and populating the rest of the place with relatively low, younger players and veterans. Thornton was a traditional X-receiver at Baylor, and he’ll be expected to play the same crucial function in New England.
