New York Jets Extend Support to Ukraine Aid Relief With $1 Million Donation

The NFL franchise New York Jets have done a generous act to help Ukraine in these tough times. The owners of the Jets have deep Ukrainian roots, so the situation was straight at home for them. Seeing how they help the people in need is really wholesome. They wanted to help in any way they can. 

Suzanne Johnson, the wife of the Jets owner Woody Johnson, is of Ukraine origin. So it was really difficult for her to see the unfortunate situation of the country. It was only natural for the New York Jets to help those in need.

The Ukrainian roots of Suzanne Johnson

The parents of the wife of the Jets owner are of Ukrainian origin. Her father, Stefan Ircha, migrated from Ternopil, a small town near battle-rocked Kyiv to the United States when he was 21. Johnson’s mother, Marie, is also from Ukraine.

“My mother passed away ten years ago and my father two years ago, and he must be turning in his grave right now,” said Suzanne Johnson. “This would’ve killed him. It’s just incredulous, and it’s really the only word I can think of for what’s happening today.”

Suzanne was born in America, and she grew up in a Ukrainian neighborhood in New York. She has always helped Ukrainian organizations by contributing whatever she can. 

The New York Jets donate $1 million

On Tuesday, the New York Jets announced that they will donate $1 million to help aid the people of Ukraine. Several organizations will split the amount among them over the next year, receiving $100,000 each.

“I wanted to do my part in helping and to bring awareness because this is a problem that’s not going to go away.” Suzanne Johnson adds, “The money, they’re going to need for a long time for rebuilding and for the aid. It’s going to be there. So I just hope we could start something going. The world has been quite generous, and I just hope it continues to be that way.”

Plast Scouting USA is the first organization that will be receiving donations from the Jets. The organization was established in 1911 in Ukraine. They focus on the urgent needs of the country. They will provide medical equipment, supplies, and first-aid kits to those in need. The Jets owners want to do everything they can to help the people of Ukraine. It was a nice gesture by them. They try to contribute and help the heartbreaking situation to get better.
