The Kansas City Chiefs are having a fantastic season this year. The defending Super Bowl champions are 12-1 and are one of the prime contenders to reach the Super Bowl yet again. While most of the credit has gone to star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce has been an underrated star for the team.

NFL analyst Peter Schrager spoke on Good Morning Football about the season that Kelce has been having. He mentioned that Kelce is on track to breaking an impressive NFL record.

“George Kittle, a couple of years ago, broke the single-season record for a tight end with yardage. Kelce is going to do it this year.

“Kelce is on pace right now to shatter it. All he has got to do is average 43 receiving yards in the final 3 games. He will do that.”

He mentioned that during the game against the Miami Dolphins, Kelce provided the key to victory in a tightly contested game.

“And yesterday, it felt like if Mahomes needs somebody to find a way, it’s Kelce. I said last week it’s either him or Davante Adams as the offensive players of the year.”

Travis Kelce: Better than Gronk

Schrager elaborated on why Kelce is such an outstanding player and even compared him to NFL great Rob Gronkowski. He even suggested that Kelce could be better than Gronk.

“What does that mean? It is usually a quarterback who wins MVP. I’ll throw Derrick Henry in the conversation. I think it is a really fascinating award this year.

“Devonte Adams, DK Metcalf, I would put in Derrick Henry and now, I really think we have to consider Kelce. He’s so good that we take it for granted.

“I know we love Gronk and he was a fantastic tight end and still can play. I don’t know if Gronk was ever as unstoppable as Travis Kelce has been over the last 24 months.”

Schrager concluded by saying that when all is said and done, Kelce could be the best tight end ever to play football. “This guy, anytime they needed a play, he finds a way to get open, he makes the play and he moves the sticks.

“They have so many playmakers now, and that is their advantage. Travis Kelce might be the very best of all. And he might be the very best tight end that we’ve seen, maybe ever.”

While Kelce has enjoyed a fantastic season so far, he still has a long way to go to be mentioned in the same breath as the greatest tight ends of all time. But he is definitely on the right track.
