Ever since being traded from the Buffalo Bills, Stephon Gilmore has been a permanent fixture on the Patriots defense. A two-time All Pro at New England, Gilmore has established himself as one of the finest cornerbacks in the league.

In a team that prides itself for its defense first approach under Head Coach Bill Belichick, Stephon Gilmore has been one of the most dependable players over the years. But now, there seems to be trouble in paradise.

Entering the final year of his five-year contract, there are reasons to believe that Gilmore could force his way out of New England. Of the $65 million deal, Gilmore is set to receive only $7 million as base salary for 2021. A price that’s far below the market value for someone like Stephon Gilmore.

Not attending training camp as well has further cast doubts over the superstar’s future at Foxoboro. Thus with Gilmore’s future uncertain, one NFL analyst weigh in on how things could play out over the next few weeks.

Appearing on Get Up, NFL analyst Dan Graziano talked about the future of Gilmore in New England. And it’s not looking too good for Patriots fans.

“It’s up in the air. Has been all offseason. There was some that thought he could get traded in March around free agency. He was not. Teams that are interested in him know that he’s not happy with the contract,” said Graziano.

So you have to give up something to get him and you probably have to give him a new contract. That makes teams reluctant to part with the kind of value that the Patriots are certainly wanting,” he added.

Highlighting how things might play out, Graziano refused to rule out a trade for Stephon Gilmore before the new season comes around.

“It could go a number of different ways. They could end up trading him, they could end up sweetening his contract… There are a lot of different ways that the Patriots cornerback situation could still shake out.”
