NFL Announces New Schedule Dates For 2022; Fixtures That Will Blow Fans Away

Before 2020, the NFL schedule was released in the month of April. Ever since COVID, the dates got pushed to May. The fans who have been waiting for this year’s schedule will not have to wait longer because the official date for the same is announced. According to Greg Auman, the league has announced that the 2022 schedule will be dropping on Thursday, May 12, at 8 p.m. ET.

However, a few days ago, the fixtures for the upcoming season were released. All the details about international games and timings will get unveiled before the official announcement of the schedule.

International games and each team’s home opener will be announced shortly

Taking to Twitter, Tom Pelissero confirmed the announcement. “The NFL will release its 2022 schedule on Thursday, May 12” the tweet read. But this year’s schedule release will be coming with some twists and turns.

In total, five international games will be held by the NFL. However, the participants for the games will be announced on the 4th of May. The five home teams set for the international appearance will be Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals, and Jacksonville Jaguars. According to the Bucswire, the Tom Brady-led side will play its first regular-season game in Germany, which is expected to take place on November 13th.

While the Cardinals will be in Mexico City, other teams will host their respective games in London. Moreover, each team will be able to announce its home opener at least two hours before the schedule gets released. By 6 p.m. ET, fans can get a clear picture of the home opening matches of their respective teams. The Thursday night openers will get kick-started by the defending Super Bowl Champions Los Angeles Rams.

The team will play host in the opening game of the season, with nine opponents on the watchlist. The Dallas Cowboys were in the game last year, so it is expected that some other team will play the opposition. Over the past 14 years, the NFL has tried avoiding the nonconference games in the opener.

How does the NFL scheduling work?

Each team will play home and away against its three division opponents, which accounts for a total of six games. The same team will play against the other four opponents from a different division. But they all must belong to the same conference. On a rotating four-year cycle, each team will play four games against opponents from a different conference.

Based on the previous year’s standings, the team will have two more inter-conference games. Similarly, on a rotating four-year cycle, one inter-conference game is played considering the previous year’s performance. As soon as the draft gets completed, more details about the schedules will surface.
