After a disastrous 2020 campaign, the Philadelphia Eagles decided to part ways with Head Coach Doug Pederson. The decision came as a shock to many given that Pederson had led the franchise to their 1st Super Bowl triumph only 3 years ago.

With the Eagles now in search of a new Head Coach, plenty of names have been floating around for the top job at Philly. But apparently the Eagles are zeroing in one particular target.

Josh McDaniels pegged for the hot seat

According to NFL Insider Dan Graziano, the Eagles have a clear favorite when it comes to picking a man for the top job. And it’s none other than New England Patriots Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels.

“They have interviewed people and most prominently Patriots’ offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Talking to people around this situation, it sounds like there’s a real chance that McDaniels is brought in as the new head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles,” said Graziano during a segment of ESPN’s Get Up.

Graziano said that though the side are still looking at alternatives, their heart seems to be set on McDaniels.

“They still have to work some things out in terms of other candidates and what their possible drawbacks are… But don’t be surprised if Josh McDaniels ended up as the coach of the Eagles,” Graziano added.

Where did it all go wrong for Pederson & the Philadelphia Eagles?

After their 2018 triumph, the Eagles were set to dominate the league in the years to come. But sadly, none of that turned out to be true.

The Eagles have failed to make it to even the NFC title game since then. And finishing rock bottom with a 4-11 record this season didn’t help Pederson’s case either.

But many feel that this is not the only reason for Pederson’s sacking. Philadelphia Eagles starting QB Carson Wentz has suffered a horrendous campaign as well. And many feel that the Eagles’ poor performances are largely down to his shocking output through 2020.

This prompted Pederson to bench the star QB for rookie Jalen Hurts. Something that did not go down well with Wentz. Many feel that Pederson was given the axe because of his desire to start from scratch with Hurts as the team’s starting quarterback.

A decision that was apparently frowned upon by the board as well, given the massive contract that ties Wentz down to the franchise.
