Former TE and NFL legend Shannon Sharpe’s regular commentary and analysis provide a different perspective on the NFL. The outspoken Hall of Famer does not shy away from giving his opinion on any matter or player. And this time, he has given his honest view on WR Tyreek Hill.

Known as the Cheetah, Hill is one of the fastest WRs in the NFL today. Hill holds various records in his former team, Kansas City Chiefs, and is a 6-time Pro Bowler. Sharpe’s comments on Hill came because of his recent trade from the Chiefs to the Miami Dolphins.

What did Tyreek Hill say about his former team, the KC Chiefs?

Tyreek Hill is starting a podcast called ‘It Needed To Be Said,’ with the first episode launching on June 10, 2022. In the trailer for the podcast, Hill said that he was treated unfairly by the Chiefs, who traded him to the Dolphins when the turn came to renew their contract with him. He also said that the Chiefs had suppressed his actual match stats in order to negotiate a lower value with him.

He also said that he wanted to stay in the Chiefs, despite feeling like they didn’t use him to the best of his ability. They traded the WR to the Dolphins in March 2022.

However, analyst Shannon Sharpe was critical of Hill’s views regarding the Chiefs. He felt that Hill’s criticism about his stats was untrue. According to Sharpe, Hill had a different motive to say those things.

Sharpe said, “No one suppressed his stats. The Chiefs wanted to keep him.” He continued, “Suppress how? What kind of numbers would he have had if he didn’t have the third most drops in football?”

Hearing his argument, Skip Bayless asked, “Are you then suggesting that he was hyping his own podcast, teasing it?” and Sharpe replied, “I think that’s what it is.” Both Skip and Sharpe agreed that Hill’s stats were too good for the Chiefs to want to hide them. “Why would I try to suppress? I would try to get all that I can from you,” said Sharpe regarding the controversy.

Thus, the only inference from Hill’s comments was that he was only trying to get attention for his podcast. In fact, Hill responded to comments about his trailer, saying that “People just gotta wait until the full clip comes out [to hear what I said].”

The Dolphins would be the genuine test of Hill’s ability

The talks between the Chiefs and Hill fell apart because of disagreements over Hill’s contract extension. Hill apparently wanted to be the highest-paid WR in the league, at par with Davante Adams, but the club wasn’t willing to go that high.

Hill was a record holder in the Chiefs across quite a few categories. But it is to be remembered that Patrick Mahomes ran the offense Hill worked on so far.

In exchange, Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is certainly not Mahomes. Sharpe mentioned that while Hill was certainly a high-caliber player, his meteoric rise was also because he played in a very potent offense. In Sharpe’s words, “He’s gonna miss Mahomes a lot more than Mahomes’ gonna miss him.”

Once the season starts, it would quickly become apparent whether the trade with the Dolphins was the right professional decision for Hill. It remains to be seen if he has the same impact that he did in the Chiefs offense.
