Vick, the first Black quarterback to be picked first overall in the history of the NFL draft, shared his excitement about the project.“I’m excited to be a part of this project because, as a kid, I just wanted to have a shot at playing in the National Football League. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be the first African American quarterback drafted number one. I know that was a big step for us in society,” he said in a statement.

Patrick Mahomes takes the baton
When someone thinks of a quarterback, they mostly think about traditional ones like Tom Brady. But a new breed of QB has taken over the league. The dual-threat quarterbacks. Pioneered by Michael Vick himself, a dual-threat QB is one who can pass as well as rush the ball. That keeps the defense guessing. The most prominent example is the Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes has taken the baton from Vick and made it his own. He can pass the ball like a bullet, and he can run like one. Mahomes has scored nine rushing touchdowns himself in his short career so far, rushing for a total of 1463 yards. And his passing ability is second to none. Michael Vick showed the world that a QB is more than just passing the ball. And the QB position has never been the same again.
