One issue that arises from including American football in the Olympics is the lengthy recovery period required between the games. As a result, the idea of flag football is being pitched to the International Olympic Committee. Flag football doesn’t require as much physical toughness as actual American football, and the games are also short.
According to a source, the IOC will meet in December to decide whether flag football will be an Olympic sport. Moreover, the LA28 organizing committee is likely to make recommendations for additional sports. There are still major steps that need to be taken to add the football to the Olympics. Americans would obviously love to see their favorite sport in the Olympics, especially when it’s hosted in their country.
