Former Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu might be using the Raymond James Stadium as a family get-together this season. The Buccaneers have a revolving door policy for everything as they announced the promotion of defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. The reason for the family get-together could be because Bowles is the stepfather of Mathieu’s fiancee Sydni Russell.

The departure of safety Jordan Whitehead to the New York Jets will be a gaping hole in the Buccaneers’ defensive line. While the Buccaneers let Whitehead walk without even making him an offer, the Honey Badger presents an opportunity.
Both Bruce Arians and Todd Bowles have been long admirers of Mathieu. He might be the answer to the team’s current predicament on the defensive side of the ball.

The speculation and rumors gained more traction after Mathieu tweeted a picture with some members of the Bowles family at an amusement park. With Bowles taking over the reins following Arians announcing his retirement, he might try the Arians approach. Arians did try to recruit the ‘Honey Badger’ during the 2019 NFL campaign.
Why hasn’t Tyrann Mathieu signed with a team yet?
A possible reason behind the lack of any real momentum of offers for Mathieu might boil down to the unrealistic valuation of his services. During his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport did cite his over-evaluation as a possible reason for franchises pulling out of the race for his signature. While he also adds that Mathieu might be doing things right as playing the long game might ultimately pay off for him.

While the Steelers and Dolphins have pulled out of the race, the field seems to be thinning out for the former Chiefs‘ safety. A possible landing spot apart from the Buccaneers could be the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders are also looking to push hard for making the 2022 NFL playoffs.
While the Honey Badger has versatility working in favor and increasing his value, his experience will be something that might attract prospective teams.

The Buccaneers continue to search for the right pieces to make the most of another season with QB Tom Brady. As he enters his twilight years, the demand for excellence increases with him. The goal for the Buccaneers’ front office will be to recruit players who can elevate at the most opportune times. The recruitment of Mathieu could be one possible solution for the franchise.
